Highlighter As Eyeshadow

Have you ever bought a product online and the tone of the product was too dark or light? Well, this happened to me with the Gerard Cosmetics Star Powder in Lucy.

Gerard Cosmetics was having a sale on their Star Powders, also known as highlighters, on their website a few years ago. You had to buy two of them to get the discounted price. I knew I wanted their Star Powder in Marilyn, a light gold, but wasn't familiar with their other highlighter colors. I looked at all of the swatches the company provided and decided to choose Lucy, a dusty rose with a hint of gold. In the professional picture it looked similar to Becca's Opal highlighter and thought at the time, this would be a great dupe since I don't have Opal at the time.

My mistake was not reading the reviews from other customers who already bought the product and relying too much on the professional picture. TIP: Professional pictures tend to be brighter in pictures due to studio lighting.

I was very excited to receive my package in the mail a few weeks later. At the time, I only had one other highlighter and couldn't wait to expand my collection.

Unfortunately, Lucy was much darker in tone and for my skin tone, I wouldn't be able to use it as a highlighter. For years, I have used Lucy as a blush topper. I wasn't getting as much use out of the product as would like since I don't usually reach for a blush topper when I do my makeup. I even thought of passing it along to a family member a few times since I barely used it.

However last weekend, my husband and I decided to go to a club. I usually create the typical smokey eye when I go out dancing but tonight I wanted something different. I looked at all of my eyeshadow palettes and didn't feel inspired.

Then, I took a glance at my highlighters and was drawn to my Star Powder called Lucy. Instead of using my highlighter on my face, I would use it as a metallic eyeshadow.

I used other eyeshadows first for the brow bone, crease, and inner corner. Afterwards, I was ready to place my Star Powder on all over the eyelid.

To create the metallic eyeshadow, I used my setting spray to wet my eyeshadow brush first. Then I dipped my brush into the highlighter and applied it to my eyelid. TIP: I wouldn't use a fluffy brush for this step. Use a "packing" brush which is a brush that has a flat edge on both sides to apply the eyeshadow evenly all over the eyelid. Refer to my blog post titled Brushes To Create "The Face Of The Day". I loved the end result using the Star Powder and now I have another use for it.

Once we arrived at the club, I got several compliments on my "eyeshadow".
